PJM - Planning and Markets

Jeremy Lin, Senior Engineer and Consultant, PJM Interconnection

Please RSVP here

Abstract: PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO), approved by federal regulatory authority (FERC). PJM ensures the reliability of the high-voltage electric power grid serving more 60 million people in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia. PJM coordinates and directs the operation of the region's transmission grid, which includes 61,000 miles of transmission lines; administers a competitive wholesale electricity market; and plans regional transmission expansions to maintain grid reliability and relieve congestion.

System planning includes planning for both transmission and generation while generation expansion decisions are made by the individual developers. PJM markets run the most advanced and sophisticated electricity markets including energy market, capacity market, and various ancillary markets. This presentation will provide some high-level introduction of PJM system planning and markets as well as some details.
